Sixty one percent of all kids admit to using the internet unsafely or inappropriately. According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, 71 percent of kids surveyed reported receiving messages online from someone they don’t know. Forty five percent have been asked for personal information by someone they don’t know, and 33 percent have considered meeting someone that they have only talked to online. The CyberPatrol Family Safety section provides you with the resources you need to understand these dangers, and to help keep your family safe.
Business environments have different needs and concerns when it comes to Internet safety. Businesses need to be concerned with legal liability issues from employees viewing questionable content at work, potential loss of productivity, and bandwidth issues caused by inappropriate surfing at work. Additionally, inappropriate surfing can cause security nightmares from viruses, spyware, spam and other malicious content that is often times found on web sites.
Today, schools and libraries face new challenges with technology. It is important for these institutions protect their students from stumbling upon questionable web sites that can negatively affect students and possibly create a security nightmare on the network. Software alone is not enough. CyberPatrol provides numerous resources to help educate students about online safety.
